The number of abortions reported in the U.S. decreased by nearly 25 percent between 2007 and 2016, according to new data published Nov. 29 in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.

For the report, CDC researchers analyzed 2007-16 abortion data self-reported by 47 states and New York City. Researchers also looked at census and natality data over the same time period to calculate abortion rates and ratios.

Four report findings:

1. In 2016, the CDC received 623,471 reports of abortions nationwide, representing a 2 percent drop from a year prior.

2. This figure marks a 24 percent decrease from the 825,240 abortions recorded in 2007.

3. Women ages 20-29 accounted for 58.5 percent of abortions reported in 2016.

4.  Nearly 66 percent of abortions were performed at or before eight weeks' gestation.
