82% of hospitals say ACA repeal efforts did not hinder population health strategy: 3 survey insights

Julie Spitzer -

Eighty-two percent of healthcare executives agree the Republican efforts to repeal and replace the ACA did not cause them to change their population health management plans.

Health Catalyst, a data, analytics and decision support company, surveyed 199 healthcare and insurance company executives on their organizations' PHM strategies.

Here are three survey insights.

1. Four percent of respondents said they were delaying their PHM plans because of political uncertainty. By contrast, 4 percent of respondents said they were accelerating their PHM plans in an effort to improve care quality and outcomes.

2. The plurality of respondents (37 percent) said it would take three to five years to transition more than 30 percent of their patients to risk-based contracts. Only 13 percent of respondents reported their organization had already achieved this threshold.

3. Thirty-seven percent of respondents indicated financial issues were the biggest hindrance to starting, or succeeding with an existing, PHM program.
