4 ways states can reduce adult e-cigarette use

Anuja Vaidya -

State regulations focused on curbing e-cigarette use among U.S. adults may be effective, a study published in JAMA Network Open found.

Researchers examined responses from 894,997 adults, 18 years and older, to a nationwide telephone survey that collected state data on health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions and use of preventive services, called the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

Of the 894,997 participants, 28 907 were e-cigarette smokers.

Researchers found that the following types of state regulations helped lower e-cigarette use:

● Prohibiting e-cigarette use in indoor areas
● Requiring retailers to purchase a license to sell e-cigarettes
● Prohibiting sales of tobacco products to those younger than 21 years
● Applying taxes to e-cigarettes
