The report, led by the organization’s committee on cardiovascular disease in women, outlined eight potential barriers to enrolling more women in trials:
- Differential care
- Ageism
- Lack of awareness, trust and logistical barriers
- Lack of diversity in clinical trial leadership
- Underrepresented minority women in cardiovascular clinical trials
- Special consideration for pregnant women and women of childbearing age
- Sex differences in disease
- Study retention
The report also offers several strategies to address the barriers, including broader distribution of trial site locations, recruiting diverse trial leadership and more.
