The hardest part of the job, according to cardiologists

Cardiologists said having so many rules and regulations and working long hours were two of the hardest parts of the job, according to a Medscape survey published May 24.

"Cardiologist Compensation Report 2023" was part of Medscape's "Physician Compensation Report 2023," which surveyed 10,011 physicians in more than 29 specialties between Oct. 7 and Jan. 17 about their income, job satisfaction and more.

Cardiologists were asked to identify the most challenging part of their job as part of the survey. Here's how they answered: 

  • Having so many rules and regulations: 24 percent

  • Having to work long hours: 19 percent

  • Difficulties getting fair reimbursement from or dealing with Medicare and/or other insurers: 14 percent

  • Working with an EHR system: 14 percent

  • Other: 10 percent

  • Dealing with difficult patients: 9 percent

  • Worrying about being sued: 5 percent

  • Nothing: 4 percent

  • Danger/risk associated with treating patients with COVID-19: 1 percent
