Staten Island University hospital opens $17.5M heart unit

N.Y.-based Staten Island University Hospital opened its $17.5 million, 19 bed cardiovascular unit in the Heart Tower of its North campus.

Each single-bed suite contains full cardiac services, including atrial fibrillation, cardiac catheterization, catheter ablation, CT angiography, electrophysiology, noninvasive diagnostics, peripheral artery treatment and peripheral vascular treatment.

The cardiovascular care unit will open to patients in October and include services such as a patient liaison, valet and VIP breakfast, SIUH stated in a news release shared with Becker's.

“There’s a direct correlation between how people feel and how people heal,” said Mitchell Weinberg, MD, chair of cardiology at Staten Island University Hospital. “The data shows that if you’re nervous, you’re not going to heal well. If you’re not relaxed, you’re not going to heal well and you’ll be in the hospital longer. If you want people to experience world-class care close to home, you need to make them feel at home. Great care, great food and great sleeping conditions are what Staten Islanders expect and deserve.”
