Spectrum Health starts expansion on cardiac clinical space at Michigan hospital

Lakeland Hospital in Niles, Mich., part of Spectrum Health, broke ground on a project to expand its heart and vascular services, the hospital said May 12.

The 3,760-square-foot expansion will add new clinical space, including 10 exam rooms and is expected to be completed later this summer. The expansions will be an extension of the hospital, with the separate building that currently houses Lakeland Heart and Vascular to be converted to additional parking space.

"The decision to consolidate all heart and vascular services in one location within the hospital will help improve access and convenience for patients seeking cardiac care," said Ray Cruse, president of the hospital. "The added clinical space will also allow the Niles cardiology group to increase patient volumes while providing a better overall patient experience."

The expansion is part of a larger $2.9 million project to upgrade the hospital's orthopedic and bariatric units.
