A brain health score devised by researchers at Somerville, Mass.-based Mass General Brigham can identify a woman’s risk of experiencing a stroke or other cerebrovascular event, according to a study published May 16 in Neurology.

The McCance Brain Care Score quantifies brain health by measuring 12 modifiable physical, lifestyle and social-emotional risk factors, according to a May 19 news release from the health system.

Researchers pooled the data of 21,271 women from the Women’s Health Study for their analysis. They found that women with a five-point higher baseline McCance Brain Care Score were 37% less likely to experience a cerebrovascular event over their lifetime.
