Cass Wheeler, former CEO of the American Heart Association, has died. He served as the organization’s CEO from 1998 to 2008.
During his time as CEO, Mr. Wheeler led the unification of the American Heart Association’s state and metropolitan chapters into 15 geographic affiliates, launched the “Go Red for Women” campaign, and established both the American Stroke Association and the Get With The Guidelines program, according to a June 21 news release from the organization.
“His legacy lives in the millions of lives touched by the work he helped build,” Nancy Brown, current American Heart Association CEO, said in the release.
He died from ALS at the age of 84.
