Scripps Health to build 120-bed behavioral health facility

San Diego-based Scripps Health is partnering with Acadia Healthcare to build a 120-bed behavioral health facility in Chula Vista.

The new facility will replace Scripps Mercy Hospital's 36-bed inpatient behavioral health unit and is expected to be completed in 2023. Acadia Healthcare operates 586 healthcare facilities in  40 states, the United Kingdom and Puerto Rico.

"This collaboration gives us the opportunity not only to continue, but to significantly expand, our commitment to serve behavioral health patients," said Chris Van Gorder, president and CEO of Scripps Health. "We selected Acadia as our partner because of the company’s deep expertise in the specialized field of behavioral health and its experience operating hundreds of facilities, many in partnership with other healthcare providers."

While the facility is under construction, Scripps will invest over $1 million in its existing inpatient behavioral health unit for safety upgrades.
