Rush University Medical Center breaks ground on $450M facility

Rush University Medical Center in Chicago broke ground June 12 on its 10-story, $450 million outpatient care center.

The outpatient center, the new home of Rush's cancer and neurosciences center, will feature 90 cancer infusion rooms, 82 cancer exam rooms, 18 neurosurgery exam rooms, 18 neurology infusion rooms, lab testing and pharmacy services.

The construction project on the city's Near West Side also includes a 900-space parking garage for patients.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Rush officials also announced they received the largest single donation in its history to support construction of the center from Joan and Paul Rubschlager. While the amount of the gift remains undisclosed, the Chicago Tribune reports that previously the single largest donation made to Rush was about $45 million.
