North Carolina town moves forward to build industrial site on lot planned for AdventHealth hospital

The Asheville, N.C., Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to approve a three-building project on a lot that Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth had won approval to build a new hospital, the Asheville Citizen Times reported Jan. 5.

Advent's proposal had been put on hold as Asheville-based Mission Health and Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health appealed the Florida health system's certificate of need. The health system did not respond to the Citizen Times' request for comment on the overlapping projects.

A city urban planner told the Citizen Times the deal is not set in stone because the land owners can propose new zoning or plans for the site at any time.

"I don't know what the hospital's plans are," Brian Hall, one of the presidents of Samet Corp., the group leading the new development, told the Citizen Times. "What I do know is that we've got our industrial plan that we're excited about and excited to move forward with."
