New York hospital plans $22M expansion

Megan Knowles -

Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital is beginning a $22 million expansion project, according to The Journal News.

The new building, which will house a redesigned emergency department and outpatient facility, will be built in two stages so hospital services remain uninterrupted, according to the hospital.

The expanded emergency room will have a separate urgent care facility, larger trauma bays, an imaging suite and a rapid assessment area. The 7,800-square-foot outpatient center will house primary and specialty care providers and community-based support services.

Nyack Hospital has recently become one of the busiest emergency rooms in Lower Hudson Valley, N.Y., treating about 60,000 patients per year in an ER equipped to treat approximately 35,000 patients in that time.

Construction on the two-story, 16,300 square-foot expansion is set to begin the week of Dec. 11 and is expected to be completed in under two years, said Lauren Malone, director of public relations and marketing at Nyack Hospital.
