Kansas City, Mo.-based Truman Medical Centers will build a $70 million medical office building that houses primary care and women's health services on its downtown campus, according to the Kansas City Business Journal.
The 129,000-square-foot building will be housed on TMC's Hospital Hill campus where the medical center's old behavioral health facility was located. It will be just south of the medical center's University Health building, which is an outpatient facility.
By moving women's health and primary care to a new facility, the main hospital can expand its birthing center and neonatal intensive care unit. It will also open up space in the main hospital for more patient rooms.
"We've been working on plans for at least two years," TMC CEO Charlie Shields told the Kansas City Business Journal. "Within the main hospital ... frankly, we need more patient rooms. We need to expand our NICU, and we need to refresh our mother and baby floor at the same time."
The project will be divided into two phases. Construction is slated to begin in October 2018.
