Mayo Clinic invests nearly $800M to expand in Florida, Arizona

In an effort to meet rising patient demand, Mayo Clinic will invest nearly $800 million to expand its campuses in Arizona and Florida, according to the Post Bulletin.

The Rochester, Minn.-based clinic plans to spend $648 million to nearly double the size of its campus in Phoenix. The project, dubbed "Arizona Forward," will add 1.4 million square feet, 94 inpatient beds, five operating rooms, 31 emergency beds and more  MRI and CT scan machines to its campus. The expansion also calls for building research rooms, classrooms, pharmacy space and parking areas.

The expansion effort in in Jacksonville, Fla., where Mayo Clinic has a 400-acre campus, includes building a five-story, 120,000-square-foot medical building, a 1,000-space parking garage and connecting structures. In addition, eight operating rooms will be added and space for cardiology, gastroenterology and hepatology departments.  The cost of the expansion in Florida is $144 million

Parts of the Phoenix campus expansion are expected to open in June 2020, with the rest opening in April 2024. The Jacksonville campus expansion is expected to wrap up in 2021.
