Alia Paavola -

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery opened a new $20 million medical center in White Plains, N.Y. this week in an effort to strengthen its foothold in an increasingly competitive market, according to LoHud.com

The new 50,000-square-foot medical center houses 20 exam rooms and offers a range of rehabilitation services.

"Our strategy is about treating patients closer to home," Jennifer Rentas, vice president of regional markets at Hospital for Special Surgery, told LoHud.com. "We already see a number of Westchester patients coming to [Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City] and we’re trying to create more access in a more convenient setting."

During the third quarter of 2017, seven of the top 10 leases in Westchester County, a suburb of New York City where the new facility is located, were signed by medical tenants, according to the report.
