HCA Midwest Health to invest $93M in local hospitals

Kansas City, Mo.-based HCA Midwest Health has received a $93 million investment from Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America, the hospital system's operating company. The new financing will support three HCA Midwest Health hospitals' expansion plans.

The three hospitals that will benefit from HCA's investment include Independence, Mo.-based Centerpoint Medical Center, Lee's Summit (Mo.) Medical Center and Research Medical Center in Kansas City. The money will go toward the development and delivery of innovative services, increasing the number of critical care beds, building additional floors, expanding emergency rooms and improving infrastructure.

Centerpoint Medical Center will receive $59 million to support the addition of three new floors, the addition of 36 monitoring medical/surgical beds, 12 new intensive care unit beds, a new 16-bed physical medicine and rehabilitation unit and the opportunity to expand its third tower based upon demands and needs.

Lee's Summit Medical Center will receive $11 million to support a third floor addition for medical and surgical care and the opportunity to expand further in the future.

Research Medical Center will receive $23 million to expand the critical care unit to 42 beds, including 10 new dedicated neuro-ICU beds and four beds for critical burn patients; the expansion of Research Brookside Free Standing Emergency Room, including observation beds; and the expansion of the inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation unit with specialized care for traumatic injury patients.
