Emory, ProMedica partner to build skilled nursing, rehab centers

Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare and Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica signed an agreement to build two skilled nursing and rehab centers in Atlanta.

The agreement also includes transferring management of Emory's Budd Terrace at Wesley Woods in Atlanta, a skilled nursing facility, to ProMedica on Sept. 1.

"We are pleased to collaborate with ProMedica as we enhance and expand skilled nursing and rehabilitative services for those who need our care," said Jonathan Lewin, MD, CEO of Emory Healthcare. "Finding an organization that aligns with our values and missions to improve the health of the communities we serve was critical as we move forward."

ProMedica said it is looking for locations to build the two new facilities. Construction is expected to take two years.

The facilities will house private rooms, baths and space for innovative therapy. They also will offer access to 24-hour skilled nursing care, among other services.

The organizations also said a key provision in the agreement is forming a committee that will focus on reducing preventable readmissions, improving patient satisfaction and engaging in strategic planning.
