Banner Health opens 3 clinics at Arizona grocery stores

Phoenix-based Banner Health will open retail-based clinics in three Safeway grocery stores in Arizona with an aim of improving healthcare access and affordability, according to Az Central.

All three locations will have a nurse practitioner on site and will be open 365 days per year. The clinics will provide treatment for the common cold, allergic reactions, pinkeye, strep throat and urinary tract infections. Physical exams and vaccinations will also be offered at the clinics.

"We are trying to make it easy for patients to really seek the right care in the right location at the right time," Devin Minior, MD, director of retail-based Banner Health Clinics, told Az Central.

Dr. Minior said patients will receive the same level of care as they would in an emergency department but with less waiting time and cost.

The three clinics will be located in Chandler, Tempe and Tucson. The clinics in Tempe and Chandler opened Tuesday, and the Tucson location will open Aug. 9. Banner will consider additional clinic locations depending on the success of the first three.
