6 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions


Below are six hospitals or health systems that announced, started or completed construction projects in the last two weeks:

1. RWJBarnabas, Rutgers Cancer Institute plan $750M pavilion
RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey announced plans June 3 to develop a freestanding cancer pavilion in New Brunswick, N.J., a project estimated to cost $750 million.

2. Banner Health starts $106M expansion
Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, Ariz., has broken ground on its $106 million expansion project.

3. Westchester Medical Center opens $230M ambulatory care pavilion
Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y., has opened two floors of its $230 million, eight-story ambulatory care pavilion to patients.

4. VCU Health System to open 16-story children's hospital by 2023
Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University Health System will break ground on its 16-story inpatient children's hospital June 8.

5. Houston Methodist plans $240M expansion
Houston Methodist the Woodlands (Texas) Hospital, just 2 years old, will embark on a $240 million expansion project, according to the Community Impact.

6. ProMedica to open $386M tower in July
ProMedica Toledo (Ohio) Hospital will open its $386 million, 13-story tower to patients July 16.
