Uber adds 7 cities to pilot program rewarding drivers for going electric

Uber will implement a pilot program in seven cities across the country intended to induce drivers to switch to electric cars, according to Fortune.

The yearlong program will take place in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, Texas, Montreal and Sacramento, Calif., and build off existing pilots in Pittsburgh and Portland. It is expected to affect 5 million rides over 12 months.

Incentives will differ by city, and drivers in Pittsburgh, San Francisco and San Diego will receive $1 extra per ride if they switch to an electric vehicle. The program will provide educational resources about electric vehicles and advocacy for electric vehicle drivers and create in-app features that cater to them.

"At Uber, we're committed to facilitating reliable transportation for everyone, everywhere and making our cities more efficient and less reliant on personal car ownership," Uber said.
