Tesla meets Model 3 production goal of 5K cars before end of quarter

Leo Vartorella -

Tesla produced 5,000 Model 3 sedans, and 7,000 cars total, in the last week of the second quarter, according to CNBC.

The company beat a deadline for Model 3 production that CEO Elon Musk set earlier this year. The 5,000th Model 3 finished quality checks around 5 am July 1 at Tesla's Fremont Calif., factory.

Model 3 production has been plagued with delays due to an over-reliance on assembly line automation, battery problems and other issues, CNBC reported Tesla went so far as to erect a new assembly line in a tent outside of its main factory.

"I think we just became a real car company," Mr. Musk emailed employees after reaching the production goal, according to CNBC.
