How retailers are competing with Amazon on Prime Day

Leo Vartorella -

Amazon Prime Day will offer 36 hours of sales starting July 16, and competing retailers are offering their own sales in the hopes of drawing customers, according to Fortune.

Target is running a "red-hot summer savings" sale July 17 that includes 30 percent off Target home brands and Google products as well as 25 percent off beauty and personal care products. Kohl's is offering deal on home appliances, mattresses and workout clothes, while Bed Bath & Beyond, eBay, and Macy's have sales of their own.

Last year, department stores had their biggest drop in foot traffic the week of Prime Day and the following week. Amazon is expected to make up almost 50 percent of U.S. e-commerce sales by the end of the year, according to CNBC.
