Vermont ACO expanding to cover 120k individuals

Morgan Haefner -

OneCare Vermont, a Colchester-based ACO, will cover four times the 30,000 Medicaid patients it worked with in its first year, according to a Burlington Free Press report.

Under the value-based payment program, OneCare Vermont pays participating providers a set fee per patient. Should the patient's care cost less than the fee, the provider keeps the difference; however, if it costs more, the provider is responsible for the difference.

As part of a multiyear plan, the program will extend to cover roughly 120,000 individuals, including patients with Medicare and private insurance. OneCare CEO Todd Moore told the publication the expansion is "a big transition step."

OneCare comprises nine Vermont hospitals, one New Hampshire hospital, 24 independent physician practices, eight home health organizations, and six mental health and substance abuse programs, among other organizations, according to the report.
