Trinity Health's 12 Michigan Hospitals Ink Value-Based Deal With Blue Cross

Staff -
Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health's 12 hospitals in Michigan and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan have signed a new value-based reimbursement contract that will move the two parties away from fee-from-service payments.

The three-year deal will focus on a value-based reimbursement model for hospital services, such as follow-up care and other proactive health measures. Trinity and Blue Cross executives said the contract will help Trinity's Michigan-based hospitals focus on efficiency, population health outcomes and physician integration.

"It is exciting to move from an idea to actually implementing an approach that will serve to align the interests of the patients, providers and payors to create value for all parties involved in the care delivery process," Ben Carter, Trinity Health senior vice president and CFO, said in a news release.

The deal will launch at Mercy Health Partners hospitals and Saint Mary's Health Care in Grand Rapids.
