Princeton HealthCare Partners, Aetna partner for ACO: 4 things to know

Plainsboro, N.J.-based Princeton HealthCare Partners and Aetna in Hartford, Conn., partnered for an accountable care collaboration to enhance quality and curb healthcare expenses.

Here are four things to know about the collaboration.

1. The three-year agreement concerns Middlesex, Somerset and Mercer counties and will create an integrated network of more than 125 physicians. In addition, the organizations will leverage analytics to better manage members' health.

2. Effective immediately, fully insured Aetna policyholders who received care from a Princeton HealthCare Partners physician in the last 12 months will be automatically added to the collaboration.

3. Aetna said it "chose Princeton HealthCare Partners because they are committed to providing excellent, evidence-based patient care," Michael Costa, executive director of Aetna's New Jersey market, said in a statement.

4. Mark Jones, senior vice president for network development at Princeton HealthCare System, said in a statement, "This is an excellent example of how physicians and our health system can come together to partner with a leading national insurer to improve patient outcomes, provide access to an integrated network of high-quality providers and make healthcare more affordable for patients."
