Physician groups launch task force for advanced APMs

America's Physician Groups — a professional association for medical groups that operate under a capitated, coordinated care model — launched a learning collaborative Oct. 22 that aims to support providers taking on risk and to help develop the next Advanced Alternative Payment Models.

APG's Risk Evolution Task Force has a two-part mission. First, it plans to support members by disseminating best practices for value-based care. Second, it will work with Congress, HHS and CMS on creating the next generation of alternative payment models.

Melanie Matthews, CEO of Olympia, Wash.-based Physicians of Southwest Washington and Niyum Gandhi, executive vice president and chief population health officer of New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System, will lead the task force. Valinda Rutledge, APG vice president of federal affairs, will lead advocacy efforts for the group. Former U.S. chief technology officer Aneesh Chopra will serve as a subject matter expert on ACO benchmarks. Mr. Chopra is the president of CareJourney, an ACO analytics firm. Eric Coleman, MD, MPH, will be the task force's subject matter expert on care transitions. Dr. Coleman is founder of The Care Transitions Program, a four-week program to improve patient transitions from the hospital to the home. He is also a professor and leader of the Division of Health Care Policy and Research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.
