EHNAC releases criteria for Accountable Care Organization Accreditation Program

Ayla Ellison -

The Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission — a non-profit development and accrediting body for organizations that electronically exchange healthcare data — has released draft criteria for the Accountable Care Organization Accreditation Program and is seeking public comment on the proposed criteria.

The criteria focus on organizations' ability to meet a variety of privacy, security and confidentiality laws, such as HIPAA and HITECH. EHNAC's criteria also set the standards to help ensure ACOs can meet the requirements of healthcare reform mandates under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The public can comment on the proposed ACO criteria until Dec. 22.
