Cigna reports successful collaborative care results

Emily Rappleye -

Cigna reported successful second-year outcomes for its collaborative care initiative with Concord, N.H.-based Granite Healthcare Network, the payer's largest collaborative care program in northern New England.

Formed in 2012, GHN aims to provide collaborative care for 27,000 patients in New Hampshire. Cigna's collaborative care programs are modeled off accountable care organizations.

Cigna reported the following outcomes.

  • 83 percent overall compliance with evidence-based care guidelines
  • 8.3 percent improvement in closing gaps in care, such as missed prescription refills
  • 16.2 percent decrease in avoidable emergency room visits
  • 1.4 percent decrease in overall advanced imaging cost, per scan
  • 1.2 percent projected growth in cost of care, which is lower than the market medical cost trend

All GHN facilities are located in New Hampshire: Concord Hospital, Manchester-based Elliot Hospital, Laconia-based LRGHealthcare, Nashua-based Southern New Hampshire Health System, Dover-based Wentworth-Douglass Hospital and in April, Manchester-based Catholic Medical Center will join.
