Staff -

Parkland Memorial Hospital (Dallas). Parkland Memorial Hospital established its sustainability program in 2013 and has since recycled or diverted more than 3,800 tons of waste through 30 different programs. The hospital's laundry water reclamation system saves around 12 million gallons of water each year and its parking garage uses LED lighting and a 32-kilowatt photovoltaic solar panel system to save energy. The hospital and its Women & Infants Special Health Clinic became LEED Gold-certified healthcare facilities in 2015, and the North Texas Recycling Awards honored Parkland Memorial Hospital with the Distinguished Greenscape Project of the Year distinction that same year for its water-efficient landscaping, which reduced water usage by 60 percent and saves 17 million gallons of water annually. The hospital also looks beyond its campus to promote sustainability, partnering with the Dallas County Hospital District Police Department to host prescription take-back events where the public can turn in unwanted, unused or expired medications for safe disposal.
