The University of Vermont Medical Center (Burlington). The University of Vermont Medical Center strives to be the greenest healthcare organization in the U.S., and its sustained efforts to reduce energy consumption, waste stream and carbon footprint, as well as increase access to healthy, locally produced foods are widely acknowledged. In 2015 alone, Practice Greenhealth recognized UVM with a Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award and six Circles of Excellence awards in leadership, waste reduction, chemical reduction, greening the OR, sustainable food services and green building achievements. UVM's master facilities plan calls for all projects to meet LEED certification guidelines. In fact, the medical center's radiation oncology facility earned a LEED Gold certification in 2010.
