Pennsylvania Hospital (Philadelphia) | 100 hospitals and health systems with great orthopedic programs 2017

Staff -

Pennsylvania Hospital (Philadelphia). Pennsylvania Hospital was the first hospital in the U.S. to develop an orthopedic surgery department and has since grown its services to encompass joint replacement, spine surgery and a research laboratory. Now known as Penn Orthopaedics, Pennsylvania Hospital's orthopedic surgeons perform around 3,000 total joint replacements per year. The hospital also houses one of the only hand transplant programs in the U.S., as well as Penn Human Motion Lab and a fracture clinic. To stay on the forefront of orthopedic care, 10 of the hospital's orthopedic subspecialties and around 100 research personnel partner with six principle investigators at the McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory to explore regenerative medicine and minimally invasive surgical techniques. U.S. News & World Report ranked Pennsylvania Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for adult orthopedics in 2017-18.
