Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital. Yale New Haven Hospital dates back to 1826, when it was founded as the General Hospital Society of Connecticut. The hospital opened its doors in 1833 as the 13-bed State Hospital and has been formally affiliated with Yale School of Medicine since 1917. The tertiary medical center — which includes a cancer hospital, children's hospital and psychiatric hospital — currently operates as the primary teaching hospital for the medical school and has more than 600 resident physicians, in addition to its 4,500 university and community physicians and advanced practitioners. U.S. News & World Report ranked Yale New Haven Hospital No. 1 in Connecticut for 2016-17.
