North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset, N.Y.). The home of the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine and one of the Katz Women's Hospitals, North Shore University Hospital is a major component of the North Shore-LIJ Health System. The 806-bed hospital employs more than 6,000 people and conducted 751,021 outpatient visits in 2013. Its ED saw more than 90,000 patients in 2013.

The North Shore-LIJ Health System was formed in 1997 from the merger of the North Shore Health System and the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. One of the largest integrated healthcare systems in the U.S., the system operates five major tertiary hospitals and three specialty hospitals. North Shore University Hospital was nationally ranked for neurology and neurosurgery in U.S. News & World Report's 2014-15 rankings and was also ranked in the top 10 hospitals in New York.

This spring, North Shore-LIJ Health System announced a partnership with Hempstead-based Hofstra University to create the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Graduate Nursing and Health Professions, which will offer a three-year part-time program allowing students to earn a master's degree in nursing as a family nurse practitioner or an adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. The system's hospitals, including North Shore University Hospital, will be used as learning labs as part of the program.
