Staff -

Central DuPage Hospital (Winfield, Ill.). The Central DuPage Hospital Association, established in 1958, set out to restore a sanitarium in Winfield, Ill., to bring healthcare services closer to home. After the renovation, the sanitarium was named the Central DuPage Hospital, opening in 1964 with 113 beds and 60 physicians. Later, the hospital had two large expansions in 1970 and 1976, more than tripling its size.

Today this 347-bed acute-care hospital, part of Northwestern Medicine as of September 2014, has more than 1,040 physicians on staff in 90 specialties. It was named a 100 Top Hospital by Truven Health Analytics, a 2014 Top Hospital by The Leapfrog Group and one of the top 10 hospitals in Chicago for 2014-15 by U.S. News & World Report. It is known for its orthopedics, which earned a No. 28 national ranking from U.S. News & World Report, for its nephrology services, which earned the hospital designation as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission, and for its pediatrics: it offers a Level III neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric emergency room. Central DuPage hospital is also a Magnet hospital.

This year, the hospital is celebrating its 50th anniversary all year long by introducing one story of a staff member each week for 50 weeks from September 2014 to September this year, including physicians, nurses, administrators and volunteers. At the end in September, the hospital will celebrate all 50 honorees at its annual donor dinner.
