Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Lurie Children's, formerly Children's Memorial Hospital, was founded in 1882 in an eight-bed cottage by a young widow whose son died of acute rheumatic fever. After more than 130 years, it has grown into the largest pediatric provider in the Chicagoland area.

Their depth of experience helped the hospital achieve national rankings in all 10 pediatric specialties examined by U.S. News & World Report. Lurie Children's was the first children's hospital in the nation to earn Magnet recognition for excellence in nursing.

In June 2012, Lurie Children's made a big move south from Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood to Streeterville, which is just down the street from its academic partner, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. After opening its new $915 million, 288-bed facility, the hospital saw a 15 percent increase in its operating revenue in its first year. Though the new facility has twice the square footage of the old hospital in Lincoln Park, the hospital's energy costs will only increase by about 20 percent. The new hospital's 21 operating/procedure rooms are all equipped for minimally invasive surgery, making Lurie Children's a leader in medical technology.
