Workers at Danbury, New Milford hospitals vote to form union

Workers at Danbury and New Milford hospitals in Danbury, Conn. have decided to form a union, according to an Associated Press report.

Under the deal, about 260 radiology technologists, respiratory clinicians and licensed practical nurses came together with 600 nurses at Danbury Hospital and 125 nurses at New Milford Hospital, according to the report. They will be represented by AFT Connecticut. Also impacted by the union vote are technical employees in hospital satellite sites in Danbury, Ridgefield and Southbury, according to the report.

Workers claimed administrators attempted to prevent their organization efforts through intimidation, but the health system has denied this, according to the report.

Health network Chief Executive Officer John Murphy told the Associated Press that although the company is not pleased with the workers' decision, it does respect their right to make it.

Moving forward, the hospitals will work with the new union, he told the Associated Press.
