West Virginia hospital offers job shadowing in finance, accounting: 3 things to know

Job shadowing is a way for college students to learn lessons outside the classroom in a real-world setting.

And one hospital, Cabell Huntington (W.Va.) Hospital, is providing such an experience through a partnership with Marshall University's Lewis College of Business, according to an Ironton Tribune report.

Here are three things to know about the job shadowing program.

1. It allows accounting majors as Marshall University to shadow accounting and finance professionals at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

2. Students participating in the program were able to see accountants and auditors in action, see how real-world financial statements are examined, learn how to use complex computer technology and interact with employees and ask questions, according to Haiyan Chen, dean of Marshall University's Lewis College of Business.

3. According to the report, about 20 students participated in the launch of the program, and more are expected to participate as the program grows.
