PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center workers will vote on unionization

Licensed technical workers at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash., have renewed their interest in unionization, according to a Northwest Labor Press report.

Union organizer Joe Crane told the Northwest Labor Press the interest was prompted by concerns over paid leave and health insurance, among other issues.

The 310 workers, including MRI, surgical, radiology, CT, ultrasound, anesthesia and pharmacy technicians, physical and occupational therapists and licensed practical nurses, have several options.

They could vote to become members of PeaceHealth Southwest Caregivers United, a unit of Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, an American Federation of Teachers affiliate. They could also vote to join Service Employees International Union Local 49, or remain nonunion, according to the report.

A vote is scheduled for June 1 and 2.
