Healthcare workers picket at 2 New Jersey hospitals: 3 things to know

More than 150 nurses and healthcare workers picketed Monday in front of two CarePoint Health hospitals — Bayonne (N.J.) Medical Center and Christ Hospital in Jersey City, N.J.

Here are three things to know about the picket and contract negotiations.

1. The workers, who are represented by The Health Professionals and Allied Employees union, picketed for a "fair contract" and "safe staffing."

2. When asked for comment on the picketing, CarePoint Health spokesman Jarrod Bernstein told The Jersey Journal, "We value our employees and look forward to a successful conclusion to the negotiations."

3. According to The Jersey Journal, which cites HPAE Chief of Staff Jeanne Otersen, negotiations between CarePoint Health and HPAE began in April, and the current contract for HPAE workers at Bayonne Medical Center and Christ Hospital expires Tuesday.
