Erlanger Health employees unhappy with disarming security guards

Employees at Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System are circulating a petition protesting the decision to disarm security guards at the system's facilities, according to a Times Free Press report.

The system decided to do away with security guards' weapons to make a more "family-friendly" environment. Kevin Spiegel, Erlanger Health's CEO, noted some armed officers will still be in the hospitals "in strategic locations," according to the report.

Erlanger employees take issue with the decision because they feel it will make the hospitals less secure. The petition states some hospitals in the system are put on lockdown often because of emergency incidents.
