Budgeted FY 2015 caregiver staffing plans available for Massachusetts hospitals

The Massachusetts Hospital Association has announced the budgeted fiscal year 2015 caregiver staffing plans for each unit of almost all of the commonwealth's hospitals are available for viewing online.

The plans may be accessed online via the PatientCareLink website, which includes staffing plans for more than 700 hospital units, including emergency departments, according to a news release. It is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Hospital Association, along with the Organization of Nurse Leaders for Massachusetts and Rhode Island and the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.

The reports for individual units include the average number of patients per day, the number of hospital licensed beds and the number of staff, among other things.

Massachusetts has provided this hospital staffing information for nine years now, according to a news release.

"Massachusetts was the first state to voluntarily make such unit-specific staffing information public," Pat Noga, PhD, RN, vice president for clinical affairs at the Massachusetts Hospital Association, said in the release. "The staffing plans can help patients and families better understand how hospitals design staffing assignments that include entire caregiving teams to ensure safe and high quality care."
