560 employees to be hired at Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital during current fiscal year

The new $750 million Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio is working to hire hundreds of employees, according to a Columbus Dispatch report.

The hospital, located on Ohio State University's Columbus campus, expects to hire 560 employees during its current fiscal year, which ends June 30, and will hire an additional 440 employees in the next four years, according to the report. The total number of hospital employees, including those new hires, would then be about 3,325, according to the report.

The hospital is on a quest to be one of America's premier cancer research and treatment centers, and hopes the new employees, which will include physicians, researchers, nurses and technicians, will assist in attaining that goal, according to the report.

It is anticipated that the new employees' salaries and spending will result in a large local economic impact, and that the hospital will draw patients from a wider geographic range, according to the report.

"People will come here for the services the James offers and stay for an extended period, and that brings in dollars," Kenny McDonald, chief economic officer of Columbus 2020, which promotes economic development in central Ohio, told the Columbus Dispatch.

The hospital is expected to begin the steps for opening next month.
