5 Fastest-Growing Metro Areas for Healthcare Jobs

Since the beginning of 2012, all but five of the largest 100 metropolitan areas have added healthcare jobs, according to recent research from CareerBuilder and Economic Modeling Specialists International.

Though nearly all metro areas have seen healthcare job gains, some are growing faster than others. The following are healthcare's top five fastest-growing metro areas.

1. Richmond, Va. Healthcare has added 4,585 jobs here since 2012, up 5.6 percent. Most of the jobs are in home health companies, medical and surgical hospitals and physician offices.

2. Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, Texas. This area has had an addition of 16,079 jobs, up 5.2 percent. Like Richmond, growth has been in medical and surgical hospitals, home health companies and physician offices.

3. Boise-Nampa, Idaho. This metro area has ad a 4.7 percent job growth in healthcare with the addition of 1,837 jobs. Most of the growth has been in general medical and surgical hospitals.

4. Grand Rapids-Wyoming, Mich. Healthcare job growth is up 4.4 percent here with the addition of 2,456 jobs. Like Boise-Nampa, growth has mainly been in general medical and surgical hospitals.

5. Las Vegas-Paradise, Nev. The area has added 3,489 healthcare jobs since 2012, a growth of 4.6 percent. Job growth here is concentrated in home health services and services for the elderly and persons with disabilities.
