Santana Telehealth Project receives 2017 ATA Humanitarian Award

The American Telemedicine Association presented the Santana Telehealth Project with its 2017 ATA Humanitarian Award on April 23 at the association's annual conference in Orlando.

The Santana Telehealth Project, which launched in September 2016, connects physicians at the Hospital Infantil de las Californias in Tijuana, Mexico, with underserved children 1,500 miles away in Autlán, Mexico.

The project is a partnership between the Foundation for the Children of the Californias and the Milagro Foundation, an organization musician Carlos Santana established to support vulnerable children.

"Telemedicine uses technology to transform the way healthcare is delivered," said Jonathan Linkous, CEO of ATA. "But ultimately, it's not about the technology, it's about improving the lives of patients, no matter where they live."
