HIMSS issues 'call to action' to support telehealth act

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society endorsed a piece of telehealth legislation in May, joining 50 other stakeholder organizations. Now, the society is urging its members to do the same.

The CONNECT for Health Act of 2017 — which stands for "Creating Opportunities Now for Necessary and Effective Care Technologies" — is a bipartisan bill that aims to modernize healthcare delivery for Medicare beneficiaries by increasing access to telehealth and other technologies, such as remote patient monitoring.

As part of its "call to action," HIMSS is asking its members to send advocacy letters to their Senators and Representatives, requesting they cosponsor the legislation.

"While the bill continues to have strong support both on and off Capitol Hill, it still faces an uphill battle to becoming law," HIMSS wrote.
