UVM Medical Center named recipient of Vizient's supply chain performance award

Irving, Texas-based Vizient, the largest member-owned healthcare company in the U.S., has selected the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington to receive its President's Award of Honor for performance-related achievements in its supply chain during 2015.

To qualify for the award, organizations must be winners in at least two subcategories. UVM Medical Center scored wins in the subcategories of supply chain excellence and sustainability excellence. The only other winner of the President's award this year is Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Health System.

Supply chain excellence has been a key factor in UVM Medical Center's success in helping control the cost of healthcare in Vermont and northern New York. In the past five years, UVM Medical Center and its partners in The University of Vermont Health Network have collectively saved and/or avoided $40 million in the cost of supplies, purchased services and equipment acquisition.

This is the fifth consecutive year that UVM Medical Center has placed either No. 1 or No. 2 in national rankings for performance excellence by Vizient and its predecessor, the University HealthSystem Consortium.
