University Hospitals is Ahead of Schedule for $1.5B Fundraising Goal

Cleveland-based University Hospitals is ahead of schedule to reach its $1.5 billion fundraising goal by 2016, as the system has secured $1.124 billion so far, according to a Crain's Cleveland report.

UH launched a $1 billion fundraising campaign in 2010, but expanded it by $500 million in late 2012. The monetary amount will mark UH's 150-year anniversary. The system brought in $118 million in 2013. The year brought 28 gifts of $1 million or more, the largest showing in UH's history of gifts.

"I think 2013 showed that there is enormous loyalty to UH," Sherri Bishop, UH's chief development officer, said in the report. "The volume of gifts in the six- and seven-figure range was tremendous, which means there is a lot of desire to support UH significantly. It's not just a few $10 million-plus donors or small donors that give through our events. The entire range of givers surfaced last year."
