Cleveland Clinic Branches Out to Las Vegas

Cleveland Clinic will begin offering urology services in Las Vegas in mid-April — a move that may hint at plans to open a specialty facility in Nevada, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal report.

Cleveland Clinic acquired the urology practice of Scott Slavis, MD, and Laurie Larsen, MD. Eric Klein, MD, chairman of the Cleveland Clinic's Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute, will oversee the Las Vegas operation.

Dr. Klein expects two more full-time urologists to join Drs. Slavis and Larsen, according to the report. He also said many of the institute's 40 urologists will get licensed in Nevada.

Dr. Slavis said he thinks the "grand vision is to have another Cleveland Clinic hospital" next to the system's existing Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in downtown Las Vegas, which opened in 2009, according to the report.

The urologists will treat patients in a Las Vegas office, while operations will be performed at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, also in Las Vegas. Dr. Klein said the most complex cases will be sent to Cleveland, according to the report.
