UC Davis Health System Partners With Sinaloa, Mexico, to Improve Healthcare

UC Davis Health System in Sacramento, Calif., has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, to partner to improve the health of its community, according to a health system news release.

Under the partnership, UC Davis Health will share data and research on telehealth to increase Sinaloa residents' access to healthcare. Telehealth services will be targeted to the 27 percent of Sinaloa's population that lives in rural areas.

In addition, UC Davis will share research on neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and fragile X syndrome to improve early identification, diagnosis and treatment in Sinaloa. The partnership will also focus on scientific and technical development to support health education.

This international relationship follows UC Davis' agreement earlier this year with Mexico City's Instituto Carlos Slim de la Salud to raise awareness of mental health issues and share information on autism and fragile X syndrome. UC Davis also partnered with Shriners Hospital for Children-Northern California in Sacramento and the Mexican Health Ministry in 2010 to establish a burn fellowship for Mexican physicians.
